Voter Fraud:  We've got proof it's easy
WatchDog.org - John Fund -  National Review Online - 1/14/2014

Liberals who oppose efforts to prevent voter fraud claim that there is no fraud — or at least not any that involves voting in person at the polls.

But New York City’s watchdog Department of Investigations has just provided the latest evidence of how easy it is to commit voter fraud that is almost undetectable.

DOI undercover agents showed up at 63 polling places last fall and pretended to be voters who should have been turned away by election officials; the agents assumed the names of individuals who had died or moved out of town, or who were sitting in jail. In 61 instances, or 97 percent of the time, the testers were allowed to vote. Those who did vote cast only a write-in vote for a “John Test” so as to not affect the outcome of any contest. DOI published its findings two weeks ago in a searing 70-page report accusing the city’s Board of Elections of incompetence, waste, nepotism, and lax procedures.

The Board of Elections, which has a $750 million annual budget and a workforce of 350 people, reacted in classic bureaucratic fashion, which prompted one city paper to deride it as “a 21st-century survivor of Boss Tweed–style politics.” The Board approved a resolution referring the DOI’s investigators for prosecution. It also asked the state’s attorney general to determine whether DOI had violated the civil rights of voters who had moved or are felons, and it sent a letter of complaint to Mayor Bill de Blasio.

Normally, I wouldn’t think de Blasio would give the BOE the time of day, but New York’s new mayor has long been a close ally of former leaders of ACORN, the now-disgraced “community organizing” group that saw its employees convicted of voter-registration fraud all over the country during and after the 2008 election.

Greg Soumas, president of New York’s BOE, offered a justification for calling in the prosecutors: “If something was done in an untoward fashion, it was only done by DOI. We (are) unaware of any color of authority on the part of (DOI) to vote in the identity of any person other than themselves — and our reading of the election law is that such an act constitutes a felony.”

The Board is bipartisan, and all but two of its members voted with Soumas. The sole exceptions were Democrat Jose Araujo, who abstained because the DOI report implicated him in hiring his wife and sister-and-law for Board jobs, and Republican Simon Shamoun.

Good-government groups are gobsmacked at Soumas’s refusal to smell the stench of corruption in his patronage-riddled empire.

“They should focus not on assigning blame to others, but on taking responsibility for solving the problems themselves,” Dick Dadey of the watchdog group Citizens Union told the Daily News. “It’s a case of the Board of Elections passing the buck.”

DOI officials respond that the use of undercover agents is routine in anti-corruption probes and that people should carefully read the 70-page report they’ve filed before criticizing it. They are surprised how little media attention their report has received.

You’d think more media outlets would have been interested, because the sloppiness revealed in the DOI report is mind-boggling.

Young undercover agents were able to vote using the names of people three times their age, people who in fact were dead. In one example, a 24-year female agent gave the name of someone who had died in 2012 at age 87; the workers at the Manhattan polling site gave her a ballot, no questions asked.

Even the two cases where poll workers turned away an investigator raise eyebrows. In the first case, a poll worker on Staten Island walked outside with the undercover investigator who had just been refused a ballot; the “voter” was advised to go to the polling place near where he used to live and “play dumb” in order to vote. In the second case, the investigator was stopped from voting only because the felon whose name he was using was the son of the election official at the polling place.

Shooting the messenger has been a typical reaction in other states when people have demonstrated just how easy it is to commit voter fraud.

Guerrilla videographer James O’Keefe had three of his assistants visit precincts during New Hampshire’s January 2012 presidential primary. They asked poll workers whether their books listed the names of several voters, all deceased individuals still listed on voter-registration rolls. Poll workers handed out 10 ballots, never once asking for a photo ID.

O’Keefe’s team immediately gave back the ballots, unmarked, to precinct workers. Debbie Lane, a ballot inspector at one of the Manchester polling sites, later said: “I wasn’t sure what I was allowed to do. …  I can’t tell someone not to vote, I suppose.”

The only precinct in which O’Keefe or his crew did not obtain a ballot was one in which the local precinct officer had personally known the dead “voter.”

New Hampshire’s Democratic Gov. John Lynch sputtered when asked about O’Keefe’s video, and he condemned the effort to test the election system even though no actual votes were cast.
“They should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, if in fact they’re found guilty of some criminal act,” he roared.

But cooler heads eventually prevailed, and the GOP Legislature later approved a voter-ID bill, with enough votes to override the governor’s veto. Despite an exhaustive and intrusive investigation, no charges were filed against any of O’Keefe’s associates.

Later in 2012, in Washington, D.C., one of O’Keefe’s assistants was able to obtain Attorney General Eric Holder’s ballot even though Holder is 62 years old and bears no resemblance to the 22-year-old white man who obtained it merely by asking if Eric Holder was on the rolls.

But the Department of Justice, which is suing Texas to block that state’s photo-ID law, dismissed the Holder ballot incident as “manufactured.” The irony was lost on the DOJ that Holder, a staunch opponent of voter-ID laws, himself could have been disenfranchised by a white man because Washington, D.C., has no voter-ID law. Polls consistently show that more than 70 percent of Americans — including clear majorities of African-Americans and Hispanics — support such laws.

Liberals who oppose ballot-security measures claim that there are few prosecutions for voter fraud, which they take to mean that fraud doesn’t happen. But as the New York DOI report demonstrates, it is comically easy, given the sloppy-voter registration records often kept in America, to commit voter fraud in person. (A 2012 study by the Pew Research Center found that nationwide, at least 1.8 million deceased voters still are registered to vote.) And unless someone confesses, in-person voter fraud is very difficult to detect — or stop.

New York’s Gothamist news service reported last September that four poll workers in Brooklyn reported they believed people were trying to vote in the name of other registered voters. Police officers observed the problems but did nothing because voter fraud isn’t under the police department’s purview.

What the DOI investigators were able to do was eerily similar to actual fraud that has occurred in New York before. In 1984, Brooklyn’s Democratic district attorney, Elizabeth Holtzman, released a state grand-jury report on a successful 14-year conspiracy that cast thousands of fraudulent votes in local, state and congressional elections. Just like the DOI undercover operatives, the conspirators cast votes at precincts in the names of dead, moved and bogus voters. The grand jury recommended voter ID, a basic election-integrity measure that New York steadfastly has refused to implement.

In states where non-photo ID is required, it’s also all too easy to manufacture records that allow people to vote. In 2012, the son of Congressman Jim Moran, the Democrat who represents Virginia’s Washington suburbs, had to resign as field director for his father’s campaign after it became clear that he had encouraged voter fraud. Patrick Moran was caught advising an O’Keefe videographer on how to commit in-person voter fraud. The scheme involved using a personal computer to forge utility bills that would satisfy Virginia’s voter-ID law and then relying on the assistance of Democratic lawyers stationed at the polls to make sure the fraudulent votes were counted. Last year, Virginia tightened its voter-ID law and ruled that showing a utility bill was no longer sufficient to obtain a ballot.

Given that someone who is dead, is in jail, or has moved isn’t likely to complain if someone votes in his name, how do we know that voter fraud at the polls isn’t a problem? An ounce of prevention — in the form of voter ID and better training of poll workers — should be among the minimum precautions taken to prevent an electoral miscarriage or meltdown in a close race.

After all, even a small number of votes can have sweeping consequences. Al Franken’s 312-vote victory in 2008 over Minnesota U.S. Sen. Norm Coleman gave Democrats a filibuster-proof Senate majority of 60 votes, which allowed them to pass Obamacare. Months after the Obamacare vote, a conservative group called Minnesota Majority finished comparing criminal records with voting rolls and identified 1,099 felons — all ineligible to vote — who had voted in the Franken–Coleman race. Fox News random interviews with 10 of those felons found that nine had voted for Franken, backing up national academic studies that show felons tend to vote strongly for Democrats.Minnesota Majority took its findings to prosecutors across the state, but very few showed any interest in pursuing the issue. Some did, though, and 177 people have been convicted as of mid 2012 — not just “accused” but actually convicted — of voting fraudulently in the Senate race. Probably the only reason the number of convictions isn’t higher is that the standard for convicting someone of voter fraud in Minnesota is that the person must have been both ineligible and must have “knowingly” voted unlawfully.

Anyone accused of fraud is apt to get off by claiming he didn’t know he’d done anything wrong.Given that we now know for certain how easy it is to commit undetectable voter fraud and how serious the consequences can be, it’s truly bizarre to have officials at the New York City Board of Elections and elsewhere savage those who shine a light on the fact that their modus operandi invites fraud. One might even think that they’re covering up their incompetence or that they don’t want to pay attention to what crimes could be occurring behind the curtains at their polling places. Or both.

Pulling the masks off the communists and the muslim brotherhood
Freedom Outpost - Sid Wolfe - 12/26/2013

Editor’s Note: With the recent declaration from Egypt that designates the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist group, I thought this piece by our newest contributor Syd Wolf would be appropriate. His points of the goals of the Muslim Brotherhood and the Communists are invaluable for those who seek to preserve liberty in the United States. After you read this, you should be able to identify Communists and Islamists easily and be made more aware of what they have in store for the United States, should they be allowed to remain in power. As always, please feel free to share this information with your friends.

  • Grandchildren and children wanted a compilation of their grandfather’s and father’s military and civilian life experiences – ships, battles fought during WWII, being stationed in Cuba during Castro revolution, travelling in European countries during terrorist attacks, diving for and disarming live torpedoes and so on. They could not believe and laughed when we told stories about what life was like growing up:
  • sitting around the radio listening to variety and drama shows and Paul Harvey, black and white TV’s (i.e. Tarzan, The Lone Ranger (no blood/guts), two/three party phone lines, no French kissing or bedroom scenes at the movies, cars were around $1,200 new, used car around $300;
  • fast food chains were basically non-existent, cokes were .05/.10, had paper routes, milk was delivered to our home in bottles; gas was .12/gallon, no central heating and air (using dry ice for travel or ice blocks being delivered for fridge), no dishwashers, never locking homes or cars, x-ray machines for measuring shoe size;
  • mouths washed out with soap for cursing, picking your own switch for spankings, paddles/rulers used in school for discipline, memorization of our times tables, saying “sir” or “ma’am”; receiving polio and small pox vaccines, divorce was unthinkable;
  • taking baths in a huge tub in front of fireplace with heated water from the stove, working in the tobacco/cotton fields during the summer, riding on the tailgate of a pickup truck, sliding down hills on cardboard; and
  • readability level of a 3rd grade textbook was equivalent to that of a 9th grader today; American history was taught on all grade levels, math was applicable job training, home economics classes, woodworking classes, accounting classes, and these were in the middle school as well as high school, those headed for college took appropriate classes while other went to trade school, Physical Education taught K-12, there were Bible Clubs, Music Clubs, etc.

Walking down memory lane brought back some other memories and books read through the years. Recalling one in particular was a publication written by Dr. Cleon Skousen in 1958 called “The Naked Communist.”

Skousen held a law degree from George Washington University, served many years as FBI agent, was Chief of Police of Salt Lake City and national editor of leading police magazine “Law and Order.”

Book was based on background and information obtained as an FBI agent where he was familiar with plans and goals of the Communist/Marxist or Socialist Party. Most of the goals subtly and quietly follows “Gramsci” model. Gramsci outlined a method for the Marxist, Communist, Socialist takeover of an advance capitalistic country, theorizing that in order to accomplish this it would be necessary to undermine the culture and morality – working from within via “progressivism – liberal ideology.” These goals were established over a century ago.

Numerous others books and publications also came to mind. Among them were Congressional hearings on Communism/Socialism infiltrating our government since WWI through today and “tax-exempt” foundations influencing our foreign and domestic policies emphasizing the inherent dangers for the American people and our Republic.

Legislation passed and read through the years changed and prohibited singling out dissident groups and organizations deemed detrimental to National Security and our country. Today, Homeland Security and military has been busy purging manuals and documents regarding religious and highly political teachings of radical Islamists thus engendering political correctness and appealing to religious sensitivities; except nothing being done to protect Christian rights; privately and publicly.

There are 3 parts to this article; all meant for reflection. After reading, you decide if we are slowly losing our Republic, freedoms, liberties and our right to our own pursuit of happiness and personal choice. Once you have made a decision, ask yourself where you stand?

The following statement is applicable not only to Obamacare, but also national security. Do the research folks. The information is out there. Remember, Socialism and Communism are virtually synonymous.

“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism, but under the name of liberalism, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation without ever knowing how it happened”. – Norman Thomas Socialist Candidate for President of the United States 1944.
The following goals are from “The Naked Communist:”
  • Develop the illusion that total disarmament would be a demonstration of moral strength.
  • Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as “normal, natural, healthy.”
  • Permit free trade between all nations regardless of Socialist/Communist affiliation and regardless of whether or not items could be used for war.
  • Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with “social” religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a “religious crutch.”
  • Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.
  • Extension of long-term loans to Russia and Soviet satellites.
  • Provide US aid to all nations regardless of Socialist/Communist domination.
  • Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them “censorship” and a violation of free speech and free press.
  • Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.
  • Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of “separation of church and state.”
  • Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis.
  • Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the “common man.”
  • Grant recognition of Red China and admission to the UN.
  • Set up East and West Germany as separate states in spite of promises in 1955 to settle the German question by free elections under UN supervision.
  • Prolong conferences to ban atomic tests because US has agreed to suspend tests as long as negotiations are in progress.
  • Allow all Soviet satellites individual representation in the UN
  • Promote the UN as the only hope for mankind. If its charter is rewritten, demand that it be set up as a one-world government with its own independent armed forces. Note number of Communist/Socialist countries existing today
  • Resist any attempt to outlaw the Socialist/Communist Party.
  • Do away with all loyalty oaths. Note attempts to delete God in many.
  • Continue giving Russia access to the US Patent Office.
  • Infiltrate one or both political parties in the United States.
  • Use courts to weaken basic American institutions claiming activities violate civil rights.
  • Get control of the schools, teachers’ associations and textbooks. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum.
  • Gain control of student newspapers.
  • US acceptance of coexistence as the only alternative to atomic war.
  • US willingness to capitulate in preference to engaging in atomic war.
  • Use students to foment public protests against programs, individuals or organizations under Communist/Socialist attack. Chief of Police not being able to talk about “stop & frisk” Q&A.
  • Infiltrate press, book-review assignments, editorial writing, and policymaking positions.
  • Gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures.
  • Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression. “Eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms.” Note all the weird shapes all over nation.
  • Control art critics and directors of art museums. “Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art.” Remember Christ in urine piece?
  • Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of the “big picture.”
  • Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture–education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, health care, etc.
  • Eliminate all laws or procedures which interfere with the operation of the Socialist/Communist apparatus.
  • Eliminate the House Committee on Un-American Activities.
  • Discredit and eventually dismantle the FBI.
  • Infiltrate and gain control of more unions. Check backgrounds of leaders.
  • Infiltrate and gain control of big business. Check backgrounds of founders.
  • Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social agencies. Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which no one but psychiatrists can understand [or treat]. Check out “civilian” police force. See DHS on this.
  • Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a means of gaining coercive control over those who oppose Socialist/Communist goals.
  • Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents. Attribute prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of children to suppressive influence of parents. “Need a village to raise children.” Clinton
  • Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate aspects of the American tradition; that students and special-interest groups should rise up and use “united force” to solve economic, political or social problems.
  • Overthrow all colonial governments before native populations are ready for self-government.
  • Internationalize the Panama Canal. Carter gave Canal away.
  • Repeal the Connally reservation so the US cannot prevent the World Court from seizing jurisdiction over domestic problems. Give the World Court jurisdiction over nations and individuals alike.
Rather than focusing on various terrorist groups or organizations, the use of terror falls into a multiplicity of options available to progressively infiltrate, confront, and eventually establish Islamic domination over the West.” Tactics and techniques are among the many recommendations made in The Project, drafted in 1982 when tensions and terrorist activities in the Middle East were still very nascent. The Project is extremely discerning for outlining the bulk of Islamist action, whether by “moderate” Islamist organizations or outright terror groups, over the past two decades. Investigate various Islamic organizations such as CAIR, ISNA, ICNA, Muslim Brotherhood in key agencies our government like DHS, DOJ, DOD. Research Socialist/Communist influence in Muslim countries during WWII. Does the following ring any bells or cause for concern?
  • Networking and coordinating actions between likeminded Islamist organizations;
  • Avoiding open alliances with known terrorist organizations and individuals to maintain the appearance of “moderation”;
  • Infiltrating and taking over existing Muslim organizations to realign them towards the Muslim Brotherhood’s collective goals;
  • Using deception to mask the intended goals of Islamist actions, as long as it doesn’t conflict with shari’a law;
  • Avoiding social conflicts with Westerners locally, nationally or globally, that might damage the long-term ability to expand the Islamist powerbase in the West or provoke a lash back against Muslims;
  • Establishing financial networks to fund the work of conversion of the West, including the support of full-time administrators and workers;
  • Conducting surveillance, obtaining data, and establishing collection and data storage capabilities;
  • Putting into place a watchdog system for monitoring Western media to warn Muslims of “international plots fomented against them”;
  • Cultivating an Islamist intellectual community, including the establishment of think-tanks and advocacy groups, and publishing “academic” studies, to legitimize Islamist positions and to chronicle the history of Islamist movements;
  • Developing a comprehensive 100-year plan to advance Islamist ideology throughout the world;
  • Balancing international objectives with local flexibility;
  • Building extensive social networks of schools, hospitals and charitable organizations dedicated to Islamist ideals so that contact with the movement for Muslims in the West is constant;
  • Involving ideologically committed Muslims in democratically-elected institutions on all levels in the West, including government, NGOs, private organizations and labor unions;
  • Instrumentally using existing Western institutions until they can be converted and put into service of Islam;
  • Drafting Islamic constitutions, laws and policies for eventual implementation;
  • Avoiding conflict within the Islamist movements on all levels, including the development of processes for conflict resolution;
  • Instituting alliances with Western “progressive” organizations that share similar goals;
  • Creating autonomous “security forces” to protect Muslims in the West;
  • Inflaming violence and keeping Muslims living in the West “in a jihad frame of mind”;
  • Supporting jihad movements across the Muslim world through preaching, propaganda, personnel, funding, and technical and operational support;
  • Making the Palestinian cause a global wedge issue for Muslims;
  • Adopting the total liberation of Palestine from Israel and the creation of an Islamic state as a keystone in the plan for global Islamic domination;
  • Instigating a constant campaign to incite hatred by Muslims against Jews and rejecting any discussions of conciliation or coexistence with them;
  • Actively creating jihad terror cells within Palestine;
  • Linking the terrorist activities in Palestine with the global terror movement;
  • Collecting sufficient funds to indefinitely perpetuate and support jihad around the world;
Taqiyya, a form of religious deception in which one conceals the truth while promoting an agenda such as The Project. Think on all of the above. Again, do the research and then ask yourself this question: “Is our country under attack from within, through legislation to promote a socialistic, Islamic agenda and/or ideology?”

Communist Goals succeeding – discrediting American education
Freedom Outpost – David Risselada – 1/13/2014
What if the school system itself was being operated from the perspective of a community organizer? If you remember, community organizing revolves around creating discontent and anger, in fact, it depends on it. Community organizers depend on the emotions of those they seek to mobilize to be set in high gear by telling them how oppressed they are and how unfairly they are being treated. What if this is being done to fulfill one of the goals of the communist party? I have written in several articles that one of the goals of the communist party is to continually discredit America while giving the impression that communism is the solution to our problems. Problems, incidentally, that are created by the communists in the first place.

Looking at how much more the Chinese are achieving in mathematics and the fact that they are rapidly becoming the next super power, is it possible that American kids are being intentionally “dumbed down” in school so they will view the Chinese system as superior to our own? It’s easy to come to this conclusion when you consider the following: Our kids are being trained in the collective already. They are in many instances being trained to believe that it is the job of government to provide them with what they need. They see China as a country where everyone has a job as opposed to the “capitalist system” here, where everyone is unemployed. They see China as a nation whose government is not bogged down by procedures and bickering oppositional parties. Why do they view China this way? Because these are the things they are being told is wrong with America. By comparing America’s failing education system to China’s success, are our kids being conditioned to accept communism?

To many, this may seem like a wild, hair brained conspiracy theory. The fact of the matter though is that we have a community organizer as president, who hates America. We have the “common core curriculum,” which nationalizes education and pushes a global mindset on our children.

Finally, there are the 45 declared goals of the communist party, which were entered into the congressional record in 1963. Among these goals, were the infiltration of our education system and teachers unions, as well as the discrediting of American culture in all of its aspects.

The number of working age Americans unemployed as risen by almost ten million under Obama
Freedom Outpost – Michael Snyder – 1/13/2014

That headline is not a misprint. The number of working age Americans that do not have a job has increased by nearly 10 million since Barack Obama first entered the White House. In January 2009, the number of “officially unemployed” workers plus the number of Americans “not in the labor force” was sitting at a grand total of 92.6 million. Today, that number has risen to 102.2 million. That means that the number of working age Americans that are not working has grown by close to 10 million since Barack Obama first took office. So why does the “official unemployment rate” keep going down?

Well, it is because the federal government has been pretending that millions upon millions of unemployed workers have “left the labor force” over the past few years and do not want to work anymore. The government says that another 347,000 workers “left the labor force” in December. That is nearly five times larger than the 74,000 jobs that were “created” by the U.S. economy last month. And it is important to note that more than half of those jobs were temporary jobs, and it takes well over 100,000 new jobs just to keep up with population growth each month. So the unemployment rate should not have gone down. If anything, it should have gone up.

In fact, if the federal government was using an honest labor force participation rate, the official unemployment rate would be far higher than it is right now. Instead of 6.7 percent, it would be 11.5 percent, and it has stayed at about that level since the end of the last recession.

Confronting Bully school boards about Common Core
Freedom Outpost – Karen Schroeder – 1/13/2014

Some state educational leaders have suggested threatening parents with a call to Child Protective Services if they opt their kids out of Common Core curricula or testing. They would charge these parents with “educational neglect.”

Citizens do not have to tolerate this abuse. A friend who recently attended a training session for newly elected school board members was given The Key Work of School Boards Guidebook.  The book was written by the National School Board Association in 2009 and focuses upon the importance of modeling the behavior that board members expect from others. Board members are encouraged to “articulate values such as respect for others, civility, integrity, and inclusion.”

If writing to your state school board association does not provide a solution, contact an attorney who specializes in Constitutional law. Advocates for Academic Freedom works with Attorney Jeff Scott Olson who explains that the law might permit a successful suit under the First Amendment, but there is certainly no guarantee of a quick result. “Anyone who had been kept from speaking could be a prospective plaintiff.” Sometimes, a simple notification from such an attorney will solve the problem for a relatively minimal cost.

Most bullies back down and adopt more acceptable behavior once confronted. These issues are too important for citizens to remain silent or to allow their freedoms to be undermined. Citizens who refuse or neglect to spend the energy, time, or money needed to protect their freedoms can expect someone to take those freedoms from them.

(Hint:  Act 10 works!)
Union helps write living wage ordinance that could cost taxpayers millions
Watch Dog – Adam Tobias – 1/10/2014

By Adam Tobias | Wisconsin Reporter
MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Big Labor has helped a Milwaukee County Board member write a union-boosting minimum wage proposal that could cost taxpayers more than $27 million over the next six years.

The “living wage” ordinance also could bankrupt the county’s Department of Family Care, stunt job growth and hinder future development, according to a fiscal analysis by the county’s nonpartisan comptroller’s office.

County Supervisor David Bowen wrote the legislation in collaboration with the Service Employees International Union.

Bowen, endorsed by the SEIU Wisconsin State Council in his 2012 election, worked withlabor  union representatives on about 15 drafts and met with them several times in his office at the county courthouse, County Supervisor James “Luigi” Schmitt confirmed.

“SEIU, they’ve been lockstep with it,” Schmitt told Wisconsin Reporter.
The proposed law would set a living wage of $12.45 per hour for 350 county employees and hundreds of others who work under contract with the county.
The proposal, however, offers contracting firms an exemption from the wage hike, but only if their workers are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the employer and a bona fide labor union.

“This is obviously an attempt to strengthen unions that have pretty much gone to the wayside,” Supervisor Steve Taylor said. “It’s frustrating that, for their own self-interest, they are going to drive jobs out of Milwaukee County. They are more focused on their own membership and their own power and strength than they are to the average working people of the county.”

The living wage ordinance also could remove close to $27.4 million from the tax levy through 2019, according to a report by Milwaukee County Comptroller Scott Manske.

Annual costs could reach more than $8 million after 2017, the year when the Family Care program’s reserves are expected to run out.

Expenses also will continue to increase as contracts expire and the bidding for new agreements requires compliance with the minimum wage ordinance.
Additionally, the living-wage rate increases, on average, by about 2.5 percent every year.

If a developer chooses to receive financial assistance of more than $1 million from the county, that company and their site’s tenants also would be subject to the minimum wage ordinance.

Manske said the county’s minor role in economic development would then become “non-existent.”

That could lead to the county losing out on an estimated $34.5 million in land sales, $11 million in additional tax revenue and 8,700 new jobs.

“There is no free lunch,” said Chris Edwards, director of tax policy studies at the Cato Institute. “Every dollar of mandated increase in wage is a dollar coming out of somewhere else in the economy. These politicians seem to think money grows on trees and it just doesn’t. There’s no Santa Claus here. All of this has to be paid for.”

Santa would instead visit the homes and offices of officials and members of an SEIU hit hard since Wisconsin in 2011 passed Act 10, Gov. Scott Walker’s signature law that reformed collective bargaining for government employees.

The Milwaukee SEIU reported revenue of $1,878,513 in 2010, $938,478 in 2011 and $780,923 in 2012, according to IRS tax documents.

If all of the approximately 2,400 employees who work for the Family Care program’s Supportive Home Care Employment Services were to join the SEIU, the union could see hundreds of thousands of dollars in additional income every year.

And that’s just one piece of the puzzle. The ordinance also includes contracted food, security, janitorial and clerical services.

While Bowen says the goal is to help Milwaukee County residents move above the federal poverty line, union dues and other contributions would cut deeply into wage increases.

A vote on the living wage law has been delayed until February, Bowen said.
Bowen is trying to get a veto-proof majority of 12 votes to prevent County Executive Chris Abele from blocking the legislation.

“This mandate will cost taxpayers millions of dollars, thousands of jobs and ultimately risk the county’s important safety net services,” Abele said in a December memo to supervisors.

Abele last summer vetoed a development agreement with Hospitality Specialists Inc. on an $8 million extended-stay hotel in Wauwatosa because of a provision forcing the firm to provide starting wages of about $14 an hour.

Hospitality Specialists co-owner Jim Mann told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel the clause would have made the hotel uncompetitive and killed the project.

Common Core dollars spent to retain teachers – states still can’t identify failing teachers
Freedom Outpost – Karen Schroeder – 1/8/2014

The significance of subjecting teachers to failed teacher-training programs is lost on those who influence education.  Billions of dollars from the federal Common Core Standards, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and other sources will be spent to prepare quality teachers; but those programs will use recommendations from the same educational theorists who created those “failing” teachers in the first place. It is time to stop spending good money on failed policies. Let’s face some truths.

Research and logic indicate that great teachers know their subject well and can simplify complex concepts so children can understand. To achieve this level of skill, each teacher must master the subject he / she will teach and be prepared to employ whichever teaching method would be most appropriate and effective for a given situation. Teachers fail when the educational system neglects to provide that teacher with the basic knowledge needed to become an expert in a subject.

Basic math formulas simplify math; they help explain the relationships between patterns, and they create a universal language. Too many America children and teachers have been robbed of this basic understanding of math. Teachers are being labeled as failures when it is their K-12 and college training programs that have failed them.

Teachers are beginning to revolt against being held accountable for failed policies. They have been made invisible, and their involvement has not been sought while policies are being created that will impact their success and that of their students.

Every teaching method available to teachers today was available at the time of Plato and Socrates. There are no new teaching methods. Some technologies have made the implementation of those methods more effective, and current teacher-training programs do a relatively good job of preparing teachers to implement teaching methods. The problem occurs when federally aligned curricula requires teachers to use teaching methods which are not appropriate for a specific group of students or for a specific concept that is being taught.

Teachers who object to federal interventions that limit their ability to help students succeed are often threatened with suspension for insubordination.

Teachers need the right to choose the teaching method most appropriate for any given class and for any specific concept. A teacher who chooses a teaching method that fails students is responsible for that failure. When teachers are forced to use methods that are not best for their students, holding the teacher accountable is not fair. That concept belongs in every new teacher- preparation program!

If teachers were required to know their subject, lack of knowledge could be easily identified. If teachers were required to convey that knowledge effectively to students, a five-point quiz could determine a teacher’s effectiveness. Yet, state leaders are complaining that after spending billions on teacher training, they can’t identify ineffective teachers.

Perhaps the teacher is not the problem. Teacher-preparation programs convince teachers to implement federal programs that are morally or intellectually offensive to them.

Citizens, when your state labels teachers as failures and wants more of your dollars to fund the same old teacher-training programs, refuse to fund any program that fails to improve the teacher’s knowledge of the subject(s) he teaches. Remind your state legislators that Georgia recently spent more than $1 Billion annually on teacher-improvement efforts with “little evidence of success.” The reason given was that the state “hasn’t figured out a way to identify and remove ineffective teachers.” Citizens must stop this misuse of funds. We must withhold support for failed federal policies and insist that educational experts be responsible for the failures they have created.

How the Obamas have used the Alinsky method in order to not disclose the truth
Freedom Outpost – Sid Wolfe – 1/8/2014

Fascinating article

Politics is all about power relations, but to advance one’s power, one must couch one’s positions in the language of morality – “Community organizers are ‘political realists’ who see the world as it is: an arena of power politics moved primarily by perceived immediate self-interests, where morality is rhetorical rationale (words) for expedient action and self-interest”(p12). Gore Vidal once said “Words are to confuse, so that at election time people will solemnly vote against their own interests.”

There are three kinds of people in the world: rich and powerful oppressor (haves); the poor and disenfranchised oppressed (have-nots); and the middle-class (have a little, want more) whose apathy perpetuates the status quo – “the Haves, possess, all of ‘the power, money, food, security, and luxury’ and resist the ‘change’ necessary to relieve the Have-Nots of the ‘poverty, rotten housing, disease, ignorance, political impotence, and despair’” (p18). In 1820, Daniel Webster said: “In the nature of things, those who have no property and see their neighbors possess much more than they think them to need, cannot be favorable to laws made for the protection of property. When this class becomes numerous, it becomes clamorous. It looks on property as its prey and plunder, and is naturally ready, at times, for violence and revolution.”

Change is brought about through relentless agitation and “trouble making” of a kind that radically disrupts society as it is

There can be no conversation between the organizer and his opponents. The latter must be depicted as being evil – “The compulsion to “agitate” makes it sound as if the organizer is disinclined to converse with those with whom he disagrees. You don’t communicate with anyone purely on the rational facts or ethics of an issue” (p89) – “Moral rationalization. To converse with one’s opponents is to humanize them. The objective – demonize those who stand in the way of his designs for change. The organizer “knows that there can be no action until issues are polarized to this degree” (p78).

“All truth passes through three stages: First, it is ridiculed; Second, it is violently opposed; and Third, it is accepted as self-evident” – Arthur Schopenhauer

The organizer can never focus on just a single issue. He must move inexhaustibly from one issue to the next – hence “multiple issues,” (p76).

Justice William O. Douglas echoes Heston, writing “Restriction of free thought and free speech is the most dangerous of all subversions….could most easily defeat us.”

Obama employs Alinsky’s tactics; however, not to give voice to the people and implement REAL reform; but, to provide those in power with means to advance an ideology and goals outlined decades ago. Liberal democracy describes a form of government with a Constitution, Rule of Law and freedoms. What “liberals” and “progressives” have difficulty with are the basic principles. Distorted views “of the world as it is” vs. their version of a “world as it should be” results in an oligarchy wherein democracy slowly and systematically corrupted by elitists who create the illusion of representation and reform.
