FEDERAL JUDGE STRIKES DOWN AMENDMENT IN UTAH

Utah’s lesson for the other 33 pro-marriage states
Daily Caller - Bruce Parker – 12/30/2013

On December 20, on the eve of the nation’s Christmas break, an Obama-appointed federal judge launched a one-man coup against the state of Utah by unilaterally striking down the state’s constitutional marriage amendment — a law passed democratically by two-thirds of Utahans and shared in common with 33 other states.

In a 53-page ruling, which could best be described as a work of judicial fiction, District Court Judge Robert J. Shelby began by conceding that marriage law is “the province of the states,” but he proceeded to void Utah’s marriage law in a naked power grab that he admitted was not within his purview to do.
By the end of the ruling, Judge Shelby had overturned Utah’s definition of marriage by

In the Kentucky Resolutions of 1798, Thomas Jefferson wrote, “Whenever the federal government assumes undelegated powers, its acts are unauthoritative, void and of no force.”

Alexander Hamilton warned that “acts of the federal government which are not pursuant to its constitutional powers … will be merely acts of usurpation, and will deserve to be treated as such.”

MARRIAGE - IT IS ONE MAN AND ONE WOMAN

The Marriage Decisions
Citizen Link – 6/25/2013

Prior to the announcement of the Supreme Court decision regarding California’s Proposition 8 (a state Constitutional amendment defining marriage as one man and one woman) Citizen Link recorded a 10-minute report regarding the potential re-definition of marriage.

It’s a good synopsis of the struggle currently underway in America.

MARRIAGE ON TRIAL AT U.S. SUPREME COURT

PRAYER REQUEST: MARRIAGE ON TRIAL AT U.S. SUPREME COURT 3/26/2013

The Illinois Family Institute wrote the following pray for Marriage:

This week the United States Supreme Court will hear arguments on two critical cases on the institution of marriage: the California Proposition 8 case and the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).

Please pray:
  • For the Supreme Court Justices.
Pray that God would give them clear understanding of the purpose of natural marriage and the consequences of destroying it. Pray that He would work in their hearts. “In the Lord’s hand the king’s heart is a stream of water that he channels toward all who please him.” Proverbs 21:1
  • For those arguing in support of natural marriage.
Pray for God’s wisdom for them. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you” James 1:5

Pray that they would speak with BOLDNESS  “Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness.” Acts 4:29 “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline” 2 Timothy 1:7

Pray that God would give them favor in the Justices eyes. Now God had caused the official to show favor and compassion…” Daniel 1:9

Pray for God’s peace to be on them. “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7
  • That same-sex “marriage” would be defeated. Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.” Hebrews 13:4
Background
The federal Defense of Marriage Act was signed into law by President Bill Clinton in 1996.  The U.S. House of Representatives approved DOMA by a vote of 342 to 67, while the U.S. Senate approved it by a vote of 85 to 14.  DOMA is the federal law that defines one-man, one-woman marriage for federal purposes.
California’s Proposition 8 was passed in 2008 by 52 percent of the voters.  This state constitutional amendment defines marriage as one man and one woman.
