PRESIDENT OBAMA: I WILL NOT NEGOTIATE

ObamaCare:  A hill to die on
Townhall – David Limbaugh – 10/8/2013

Cruz . . . would not admit that the Republicans had shut down the government or were obstructing a compromise. President Obama flat-out refused to negotiate, and House Republicans have sent him bill after bill authorizing the funding of government, with each one being summarily rejected by his First Person-ness.

Sen. Rand Paul . . . would not permit her to characterize the shutdown as the fault of the GOP or confess that Republicans had failed to submit the dictatorial Obama a "clean CR." To the contrary, Paul insisted that Congress had sent the Senate no fewer than six clean bills, which it could have approved as is and sent to President Obama for his signature.

"We've been offering compromise after compromise," said Paul. "But you hear from the president and his men and his women, 'NO NEGOTIATION.'"

Paul . . . her in no uncertain terms that he does not like any part of Obamacare and that his role is to provide oversight for legislation. His Kentucky constituents overwhelmingly oppose Obamacare, and he intends to fight it. The compromise was in allowing the remainder of the budget bill to go through as it was. Contrary to Guthrie's implication, Republicans were not playing games, said Paul, by passing piecemeal legislation and sending it to the Senate. This is the way Congress used to work and is supposed to work.

"For hundreds of years," Cruz said, "the way Congress is appropriated has been one topic at a time. How is it blackmail to say, 'We think we should fund the veterans? Do you agree?' That's a yes-or-no vote. Now, Harry Reid refuses to let the Democrats vote on that. But how is it blackmail to say, 'We may not agree on everything, but is there anything we can agree on?' We ought to agree on supporting our veterans."

People are witnessing the frightening rollout of Obamacare, with its exorbitant costs and its assault on our liberties. The people are seeing firsthand that Obama has been dishonest from the beginning about every aspect of this law. They are also aware that he is not the nonpartisan he pretended to be but a dictatorial statist who is driving our nation into bankruptcy. In addition to Obamacare, Obama simply refuses to rein in government spending.

TED CRUZ' FATHER: PASTOR RAFAEL CRUZ

Senator Cruz’ Dad speaks out
Citizen Link  - Bethany Monk - 10/4/2013

Texas Pastor Rafael Cruz wasn’t at all surprised when his son stood for more than 21 hours straight last month urging federal lawmakers to defund Obamacare. He’s a man of principle, and it’s his nature, the elder Cruz said.

Obamacare, signed into law in March 2010, requires larger companies to offer health insurance to those who work 30 hours or more. If not, they face steep fines. Most Americans oppose the law. Pastor Cruz calls it the “worst thing” the American government has done.

Though he faced criticism from mainstream media, many say Cruz’ son, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz from Texas, stood up for Americans across the country when he gave his “marathon speech” on the Senate floor.

Rafael Cruz, director of Purifying Fire Ministries, helped with his son’s Senate race last year, and he continues to deliver speeches across the country on religious freedom and pro-family issues. Last weekend, CitizenLink co-sponsored his speeches in Thornton and Colorado Springs, Colo. Pastor Cruz took some time to talk with CitizenLink.

STOP COMMON CORE IN NEW YORK

Stop Common Core in NY

What is Common Core?

Common Core is the conclusion of many years of the expansion of nationwide controls over educational issues, which should for all intent, should remain at the local level. Twenty years ago, the proponents of these standards presented a proposal that was so progressive and politically correct that the US Senate voted 99 -1 for a bill (SR 66) that prevented its enactment. The supporters learned quickly that for them to get any new criteria enacted, they would need to impose these standards swiftly and silently and to start with less controversial subjects.  The current Common Core standards are limited to English and Math, but will expand to include all subjects in coming years.

The beginnings of Common Core can be traced to the 2009 Stimulus bill which gave $4.35 billion to the federal Department of Education which then created the “Race to the Top” competition between states. In order to qualify for funding, the states needed to adopt Common Core sight unseen. An added incentive to adoption of CCS was that participating states would be exempted from many of the more onerous provisions of George Bush’s “No child left behind” program.

These Common Core standards have been very quietly accepted by 45 states, but exposure of the consequences of this intrusion into local and state control of education has caused a groundswell of opposition to adoption of the bill. The opposition has created an unusual alliance of school boards, school choice proponents, teachers’ unions and grass roots freedom groups. Opposition to Common Core is developing in many of the states already planning to implement CCS including Utah, California, Indiana, and Missouri to name a few.

A rising number of teachers, parents and taxpayers are expressing concerns about New York’s adoption of the Common Core Initiative (CCI), its accompanying federal standards for states (CCSS) Why?

New York did not seek out CCI; the initiative was presented as an eligibility enhancement (1) by the U.S. Department of Education in it’s The Race to the Top Grant. New York agreed to join the CCI in 2009, the standards had not yet been written.  New York was rewarded 700 Million from the 2009 Stimulus for RTTT

There has been no cost analysis, legal analysis, legislative input or public input regarding CCI.  Implementation of CCI has already begun in New York schools; full implementation of the initiative and its tests will be completed in the 2014-2015 school year.  An independent think tank in Massachusetts states that the cost over the first 7 years to states will be 16 billion dollars (2), or over 200 million per state, on top of regular educational needs. The Congressional Budget Office was not asked to do a cost analysis because asking would have pointed out that this was not a state-led initiative, contrary to the claims of its proponents. States’ commitments to CCI require billions of dollars in implementation and maintenance spending, money that competes with already-stretched educational budgets.

The U.S. Department of Education (through the America COMPETES Act, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and the Race to the Top competition) has required the states to develop massive databases about school children.

The Common Core initiative represents an overreach of federal power into personal privacy as well as into state educational autonomy. There will be personal student information collected via the centralized testing-data collection, accessible to the Executive Branch.

Both of the CCI’s testing arms (SBAC and PARCC) must coordinate tests and share information “across consortia” as well as giving the U.S. Department of Education phone responses, written status updates and access to information “on an ongoing basis.” Data will be triangulated with control, oversight and centralization by the Executive Branch (U.S. Dept. of Education). “Cooperative Agreement between the U.S. DOE and the SBAC (3)”

The Department of Education has eviscerated the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) by issuing new regulations that allows non-consensual tracking and sharing of this personal data with other federal agencies, with government agencies in other states, and with private entities.

New York has ceded her voice and educational sovereignty because New York’s top educational leaders are persuaded that having standards and testing in common with other states matters more than holding onto the state’s right to raise standards sky-high. To New York education leaders, the right to soar seems a freedom not worth fighting for, and maintaining state educational sovereignty is not a priority.

The effort to nationalize and centralize education results in severe loss of state control of education and pushes states into a minimalist, common set of standards.  Dr. Sandra Stotsky, an official member of the CCSS Validation Committee, refused to sign off on the adequacy of the standards and testified that “Common Core has yet to provide a solid evidentiary base for its minimalist conceptualization of college readiness–and for equating college readiness with career readiness. Moreover…it had no evidence on both issues.”

Common Core standards are not considered among the best standards in the nation, and there are clearly superior standards (5).  Additionally, the CCI robs states of the sovereign right to raise state standards in the future. There’s no provision for amending the CCSS federal standards, were we to choose to still remain bound by them.

The Common Core English standards reduce the study of literature in favor of informational texts designed to train children in a school-to-work agenda. The unsophisticated composition of those selected to write the Common Core Standards and the lack of transparency about the standards-writing process also raises concerns.

CCSS states a goal to promote “career and college ready standards,” a euphemism for “school-to-work” programs, diluting individual choice by directing children where to go and what to learn. They make no distinction between 2-year, 4-year or vocational standards.

Common Core has not proven to be state-led nor strictly voluntary (6); the U.S. Department of Education Secretary rages against states that reject the Common Core Initiative.  When South Carolina Governor Haley backed away from the “voluntary” CCSS, she drew a sharp response from Arne Duncan (7), the federal Secretary of Education.  Duncan also publicly insulted all Texas students on television, saying “I feel very badly for Texas school children,” following Texas Governor Perry’s refusal to join the CC initiative. (Yet Texas math standards are higher than Common Core standards.)  Messages in public letters from Duncan to New York leaders conflict with multiple, legally binding documents signed by his team at the U.S. Department of Education.

The Common Core Initiative, far from being state-designed, is the product of the U.S. Department of Education funding and directing special interest groups (NGA, CCSSO, NCEE, Achieve, Inc., WestEd, and others) via federal grants.

The Common Core Initiative violates fundamental laws that protect states’ independence. The Federal Government’s creation of national curricular materials, through contractors, and its control and oversight of testing and data collection, and its tests written to federal, nationalized standards, are in violation of three existing laws (8): NCLB, the Department of Education Organization Act, and the General Education Provisions Act; States have a responsibility to protect the balance of powers granted in the Constitution.

Transparency and public debate about Common Core are lacking.  New York educational leaders have a responsibility to encourage public discussion and lively debate about Common Core, because the initiative will impact children, taxpayers and teachers for a long time to come.

COMMON CORE - NORTHLAND PINES

Local educators question political spotlight on Common Core Standards
WJFW – Lex Gray – 10/4/2013

Dr. Mike Richie is the Northland Pines School District superintendent. He's been hearing from parents concerned that Common Core means the federal government will dictate what books and lessons are taught.

"It's not curriculum. Every school district will select their own curriculum," Richie says. "Some of the people against Common Core have brought into me and have shown me some texts and they say, 'Well, look what Common Core does.' Well, those textbooks are not common core. The district has the ability to adopt whatever textbooks they see are in the best interest of the school district."

TEA PARTY CAN’T BE BRIBED BY WALL STREET

Tea party is terrifying the Financial Elite and it is a glorious thing
Godfather Politics – Mark Horne – 10/3/2013

The heads of the major money leaches financial institutions actually went to meet with Obama Wednesday to try to create some kind of opposition to the souce of their fears. As the New York Post reported, “Wall Street bosses come to White House in effort to fight shutdown.”

“When the lords of Wall Street came to the White House on Wednesday, they faced an uncommon political reality. The fat cats have little juice with the Tea Party. The heads of Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase and Bank of America were among the pinstriped all-stars who met with President Obama. The mutual aim was clear. The lords want to make crystal-clear that the shutdown and potential default are disastrous and put the economic recovery at risk. Obama wants them to help break the legislative impasse by simply reiterating that message.”

The Tea Party is the only group successfully taking on the “one percent.” And while the media loved OWS as a failure, they hate the Tea Party as a success that is truly threatening the financial owners of this country. Politico.com even came out and admitted that the big problem with the Tea Party Congressmen is that they cannot be bribed by the billionaires: “Wall Street angry at tea party it has no influence over,”

COMMON CORE HEARING AT THE CAPITOL

Common Cor critics converge at Capitol
Wisconsin Radio Network – Bob Hague – 10/4/2013

“We take those standards and we make local decisions involving our school boards and we determine what’s best for our children there,” said Neitzke. “These standards are much higher than anything we’d seen before. They frightened many of us, but now they are the lowest standards in our district.”

“Any districts adopting these standards, just practically cannot really personalize it to their district,” claimed Jeff Horn, a parent in the DeForest school district north of Madison. “There just won’t be enough time, and they’re going to get a ding for anything extra that they do.”

DPI plans to have the standards will be reflected in a new state standardized test which will be implemented next year.

“The Smarter Balance assessment exam, the content of textbooks and the curriculum are all tightly intertwined to allow strict management of knowledge, which can be easily hijacked into indoctrination and mind control, or what we used to call brainwashing,” said Jim Scott, a Common Core critic from Wisconsin Rapids.

COMMON CORE – TAKING A LOOK AT JUST ONE MATH QUESTION

Common Core math is ridiculous
Townhall – Christine Rousselle – 10/4/2013

Other Common Core math questions are just plain confusing. Take for instance this sample question from a New York State exam for third graders:
There were 54 apples set aside as a snack for 3 classes of students. The teachers divided up the apples and placed equal amounts on 9 separate trays. If each of the 3 classes received the same number of trays, how many apples did each class get?
A) 2
B) 6
C) 18
D) 27
While the answer is C, I fail to comprehend why the second sentence was added to the problem. The problem is asking, in plain, non-apple terms, 54 divided by three. There was no reason to mention nine trays, or equal amounts of apples on each tray. The question is designed to frustrate and confuse third graders, and this cannot be helpful in the long run. Do we want our third graders to hate math?

Meanwhile, the United States continues to lag in math competency.

Reader comments are continually added.

READER COMMENT:  THIS stuff is put forth by the same people who are opposed to home schooling? No freaking wonder! The low performing home schooled kid would run mathematical rings around a government school genius. Keep it up liberals. American still has a little ways to go to get the the bottom of the global educational standings list. But hey.... with more brilliant stuff like this.... I'm confident you can get us there!

COMMON CORE - FIRST HEARING 10/3/2013

Committee holds first investigative hearing on Common Core
MacIver Institute – Nick Novak – 10/3/2013

Evers also pointed out that recent education reform efforts in this state rely on CCSS to gauge student progress. Those included the Read to Lead literacy program, DPI's School Report Cards, and the Educator Effectiveness program that is slated to grade teachers in coming years. He also reiterated that local school districts would retain ultimate control over their curricula.

The critics that followed him quickly rebuffed his support. Julaine Appling, President of Wisconsin Family Action, gave an hour of testimony voicing her concern over the CCSS. She said the standards are an outsider's view on what is best for Wisconsin, limiting local control over the standards as a whole. Appling also expressed concern over the program's data collection and ability to keep student confidentiality as a priority. Schroeder, who followed soon after, made it clear that the biggest concern that the state faces with CCSS is ceding local control over standards and curriculum.

Members of the select committees mainly questioned opponents about what the state should do instead. Many of the educational stakeholders involved in the hearing suggested looking at the state's past education achievements or developing our own standards, but few had any specific details with which to replace CCSS.

BIG GOVERNMENT AND BIG BUSINESS: CRONYISM RESTRAINS FREEDOM

Crony Capitalism and the American Welfare state:  joined at the hip
Specific Answers - Gary North – 9/28/2013

This is a very long article that opens your eyes.  Behind closed doors big government and big business work hand in hand to ensure that small business remains small and is unable to compete with big business.

Crony capitalism favors the super rich. The super rich are willing to pay income taxes to fund a small portion of the welfare state, because the bulk of the welfare state is funded by taxes on the middle class. The super rich don't pay much into Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid. The working class pays: "regressive" taxation. These are the largest welfare programs there are. The super rich avoid having to pay much of anything into the two largest welfare state programs there are. It is a sweet deal for the super rich. The federal government's regulatory apparatus keeps growing, and the super rich's balance sheets keep growing.

This is the greatest single irony of the liberal Establishment's version of the welfare state. It was never funded by the rich. It was funded by the working class on a flat-tax basis. The super rich have watched in amusement as the Left invoked wealth-redistribution by the state. The system left the rich untouched.

Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid are guarantees that the welfare state, as proposed by the Democratic Left, will never come into existence. If there is any welfare money left to spend, granny is going to get it, and the working class is going to put up the funds. These were the greatest political bait-and-switch scams in American history. In the name of soaking the rich, the middle class and the poor created a welfare state funded by them. The rich walked away from the trap laid for them by their political enemies. The welfare state is the ally of the super rich. It costs them little. It justifies the federal government. The federal government is the source of the protection that the super rich enjoy. Crony capitalism's ally is the welfare state.

GUNS AND SPOONS

Today I swung my front door wide open and placed my Remington 870 shotgun right in the doorway and placed 6 shells right beside it, then left it alone and went about my business.

While I was gone, the mailman delivered my mail, the neighbor boy across the street mowed the yard, a girl walked her dog down the street, and quite a few cars stopped at the stop sign right in front of our house.

After about an hour, I checked on the gun. It was still sitting there, right where I had left it.  It hadn't moved itself outside.

It certainly hadn't killed anyone, even with the numerous opportunities it had been presented to do so.

In fact, it hadn't even loaded itself.

Well you can imagine my surprise, with all the liberal hype about how dangerous guns are and how they kill people.

Either the media is wrong, and it's the MISUSE of guns by PEOPLE that kills people, or I'm in possession of the laziest gun in the world.

Well I'm off to check on my spoons.  I hear they're making people fat.

ODIOUS DEBT MAY BE WRITTEN OFF BY THE AMERICAN TAXPAYER

Blanket Immunity For American Taxpayers… A Plan to Dismantle Debt Lawfully
Veterans Today – Marilyn MacGruder Barnewall – 8/27/2013

Marilyn Barnewall's long article explains, since the Federal Reserve has never been Constitutional but continues to incur 'odious debt' not on behalf of the American taxpayer, that the debt may be written off.  Please read the entire article to better understand the excerpts below.

As I understand what is said in this well researched article, “…if a government becomes despotic and incurs debt not for the needs or in the interest of the State but to strengthen its despotic regime, to repress the population that fights against it,” it sounds to me like all of the quantitative easing from TARP to TALF to the multi-trillion dollar loans made by the Federal Reserve System to Wall Street investment banks and international banks (as well as corporations — $16 trillion alone in 2011), can be considered “odious debt” and stricken from the books – and the backs – of the American (and French, and German, and British, and Greek, and Italian, and Spanish) people.

What the Doctrine of Odious Debt makes quite clear is that a lie has been forced upon the majority of the world’s population by oligarchic élites. They like the concept of a two-class system with them as the elitists, running things, while the rest of us who used to be middle class are shoved into the labor class forced into careers they, not we, decide are best for us.

The question, then, becomes: What debts are “odious” or “immoral,” and which are not? What is an illegitimate debt? President Correa related the Ecuadorian “immoral debt” to violations of that nation’s Constitution. If the Tea Party and Liberty Action Groups have any understanding of the significance of what is being said here, they will find access to constitutional legal and accounting expertise that can answer the question: What debts are odious or immoral? Which debts are not?

In America, we can look at mortgage-backed derivatives and millions of unlawful foreclosures and costing the people trillions of dollars to immediately identify trillions of dollars of property value and profits by banks that can be defined no way other than immoral. Well, perhaps unlawful, too. These debts and the government funds loaned to the banksters that created them and who got bailed out by additional funds from taxes on American citizens can probably make the best claim of “immoral” or “odious” debt of any citizens in the world.

What else might represent “immoral debt?”

As anyone who is familiar with the history of the Federal Reserve Act of 1913 knows, this procedure was not followed. Instead, politicians who supported the concept of a central bank (which America had only briefly on two occasions until 1913) let their opponents go home for Christmas on December 23rd and proceeded to pass this Act unconstitutionally. The Congress cannot, under its own limited power, change the Constitution of the United States. The Federal Reserve Act of 1913 and the banking system that evolved from it have never been constitutional.

Foreign nations should be aware: You may be doing business with an unlawful Corporation if you’re doing business within the Federal Reserve System. The Federal Reserve System continues to be in violation of the US Constitution and not qualified to create debt in the name of the people of the United States of America… the debt of the Fed being thus “immoral” or “odious.” That means it may be debt we, the citizens of this Great Nation, can write off

ABORTION: AWESOME, OR AWFUL?

ABORTION:  AWESOME, OR AWFUL?

What is so awesome about abortion?
National Right to Life News – Beatrice Fedor – 10/2/2013

Ask these 14 questions about abortion:

What is so awesome about abortion that we should elevate it to a “human right”, be grateful for it, celebrate it, call it “choice” and “healthcare”?

What is so awesome about abortion that we should oppose safety regulations, keep the likes of Kermit Gosnell in business and expect that, since it’s legal, no one will get hurt?

12 more questions . . .

Women have the unique power to grow and nurture life. We were meant to love and to be loved, not to take our children’s lives. Let us resist the culture of death and refuse to settle for legalized violence against our own sons and daughters.

FOUNDERS: WOULD NOT GIVE UP NULLIFICATION

The Supreme Obstacle to Nullification
Jefferson Review - By John Knapp – 9/1/2013

This is a great article - Please read the entire link.

Are we to believe the 13 original sovereign states which formed the Union, and those 37 additional sovereign states which joined in due course, all unwittingly subjugated their sovereignty to the eventual suicide pact that this federal government has now become?

Did 50 originally-sovereign states, by agreeing to join the Union, all agree to become the eventual junior partners in come-what-may, unconstitutional, criminal, Godzilla federal tyranny?

In time, and given enough public apathy and acquiescence, every government has - or will - become an insatiable, voracious, corrupt, tyrannical parasite on its people and its neighbors. That is the nature of government.

After having just fought the tyrannical British for their God-given freedoms and their right to self-determination, does our current government seem like something for which the founders would have been willing to die, or to have their descendants routinely settle for later?

HOMELAND SECURITY ADVISORY PANEL INCLUDES A MUSLIM

Obama’s DHS advisor Mohamed Elibiary Flashes the R4BIA Muslim Brotherhood Salute
Freedom Outpost – Janna Brock – 10/1/2013

They're here, and they aren't going anywhere. Mohamed Elibiary, one of the 28 members of the Homeland Security Advisory Panel, is using the blatantly militant Islamic R4BIA symbol on his Twitter profile. Is this a public declaration? To display this symbol on a highly visible social media profile is daring and risky. It is boldly proclaming to the world where you stand, where your allegiance lies. Elibiary is making the outrageous and audacious statement that he is aligned with the Muslim Brotherhood, jihad, and yet also is employed by the DHS. Contradictory much?

http://cdn.freedomoutpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Mohamed-Elibiary-Twitter-1.jpg

This is 2013 America, where the Muslim infiltration is almost complete. We've been overtaken from the inside out. And this is proof. Elibiary doesn't have to hide his affiliation. And the R4BIA symbol is more than just a "solidarity" statement with the Muslim Brotherhood. It is the symbol for the complete Islamic takeover of the world.

One website reportedly set up by Turkish Muslim activists describes the essence of the R4BIA icon as symbolizing more than the Muslim Brotherhood. It’s described as a “symbol of freedom” but also promotes the “return of Muslims to world stage.” It supports “justice for everyone against rotten Western values,” “a pure martyrdom,” “unification of Islamic World,” “the end of capitalists,” and “the end of Zionists.”

GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN - HO HUM

Meaningless partial government shutdown in progress:  what’s affected, what’s not
Freedom Outpost – Mike Shedlock – 10/1/2013

History of 17 prior government shutdowns

And the current 18th government shutdown.

Life always goes on.

Remember Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals:

RULE 9: The threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself.” Imagination and ego can dream up many more consequences than any activist. (Perception is reality. Large organizations always prepare a worst-case scenario, something that may be furthest from the activists’ minds. The upshot is that the organization will expend enormous time and energy, creating in its own collective mind the direst of conclusions. The possibilities can easily poison the mind and result in demoralization.)

Rep. Thiesfeldt, Sen. Farrow: Announce Common Core hearings
9/30/2013

Farrow Contact: Scott Rausch 608-266-9174
Thiesfeldt Contact: Hariah Hutkowski 608-266-3156

Madison - Today, State Representative Jeremy Thiesfeldt (R-Fond du Lac) and State Senator Paul Farrow (R-Pewaukee) announced four joint Assembly and Senate Special Select Committee on Common Core Standards hearing around the state.

The first hearing is scheduled for Thursday, October 3rd from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in room 417 North of the Wisconsin State Capitol. Other hearings include:

Wednesday, October 16 (2:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.) Fond du Lac - City/County Building

Wednesday, October 23 (2:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.) Eau Claire - Chippewa Valley Technical College

Wednesday, October 30 (2:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.) Wausau - Northcentral Technical College

Hearings will include invited speakers and public comments. If members of the public are unable to attend the hearings in-person, proceedings will be broadcast over Wisconsin Eye.

"These hearings are to provide an opportunity for the public to bring input to the legislature concerning how our children will be prepared for the future," stated Farrow. "Education is the foundation of a strong and vibrant economy. We need to ensure our children are being challenged so they may succeed in the 21st century's global economy. Such a goal must be balanced with our long standing tradition of local control in education."

Thiesfeldt stated, "I look forward to engaging and educating the public through these hearings. These standards could be in place for decades and having over 24 hours of testimony will give us a good foundation for crafting a recommendation, and if not, to hold additional hearings until we learn everything we can about how Common Core would affect Wisconsin's students."
