STUPID GOVERNMENT INTRUSIONS ARE BEING AVOIDED

1776 2.0:  The front lines of the New Revolt
Affluent Investor – Jerry Bowyer – 7/11/2014

It seems to be that as the United States federal government and the Presidency in particular have gradually morphed into something more like a European monarchy, our attitude towards its sovereignty has shifted. Certainly no state or province or faction of the ruling class would dare to challenge the military might of the United States in a single act of open revolt. But as time goes on we challenge it in small acts of secret revolt. Violation, for example, of our draconian system of immigration laws has become quite common. How many appointees to the federal bench or to the office of Attorney General must be caught in nannygate scandals involving child care payments to illegal aliens made under the table before we get the fact that our governing class, even that part which is directly pledged to enforce the law, routinely ignore this law?

Businesses split in half so as to be qualified for small business exemptions from federal regulation. Farmers look the other way when they hire day laborers who clearly are not citizens. Federal regulators write their regulations, and financiers change their form of organization in unforeseen ways to avoid the regulations, even ones they pushed for.

And most people have absolutely no moral compunction about any of these violations of either the spirit or letter of the law, because deep down they no longer believe that the law, especially the tax code, represents any compelling moral principle, nor do its dictates any longer seem to be fair. They don’t think their home state has earned taxes on the Amazon purchases or that it deserves any share of the mutually beneficial exchange between you and your dry wall guy.

Increasingly we’re all in business and in personal life thinking of more and more ways to game a system which we have less and less faith in.

It’s not civil disobedience that I’m talking about. It’s the opposite: Civil disobedience is meant to be noticed. It is a price paid in the hope of creating social change.

What I’m talking about is not based on hope; in fact, it has given up much hope on social change. It thinks the government is a colossal amoeba twitching mindlessly in response to tiny pinpricks of pain from an endless army of micro-brained interest groups. The point is not to teach the amoeba nor to guide it, but simply to stay away from the lethal stupidity of its pseudopods.

The amoeba does not get smarter but it does get hungrier and bigger. On the other hand, we get smarter. More and more of our life takes place outside of the amoeba’s reach: in the privacy of our own homes, in capital accounts in other nations, or in the fastest growing amoeba avoidance zone ever created, cyberspace. We revolt decision by decision, transaction by transaction, because we believe deep down that most of what government tells us to do is, at bottom, illegitimate.

WHERE IS YOUR FAITH: GOVERNMENT OR RELIGION???

Statists must wipe out religion and instill blind faith in government
Rush Limbaugh – 3/14/2013

CALLER: But I understand what religion is. Faith is about adjusting your life. See, here's where people miss the point. You have to have politics and religions together, and when you understand what they are, they're both useful. But people have them mixed up exactly reversed these days. They're expecting politics from religion and religion from politics. Politics should be... Here's a saying I came up with for politics:

"IT'S NOT FOR THE PEN OF LAW TO RULE THE HEARTS AND MINDS OF MAN. IT'S FOR THE HEARTS AND MINDS OF MAN TO RULE THE PEN OF LAW."

If you understand that that's what politics should be, and you understand what religion is, and you don't confuse the two, they will both serve you well.

RUSH: Now, as to our last caller, what was the man's name, Mr. Snerdley? Doug from Louisville. This guy, I'll tell, he was on to something. He said that people are reversing politics and religion. I'm going to paraphrase him. He doesn't exactly say it this way, but what his point was that people -- and this is really on point, and it's very curious. People have blind faith in their politics and doubt their religion. He thinks it should be the other way around. You ought to have total blind faith in your religion because that's what religion is about, is faith. You invest in your religious beliefs. You invest in your church. You invest the trust in that faith. You don't doubt that. It's politics that you're supposed to be a little curious about, uncertain of, question those people. But, no. People have blind faith in their politics and doubt their church.

Look, folks, it's this simple. For leftists -- and leftists today are Democrats. I mean, the Democrat Party is the repository for liberals and leftists today, and their church is the state. There is a reason why Karl Marx and every communist, socialist philosopher has wanted to do away with religion. They want there to be only one faith: the state. Blind, unalterable faith in the state. And the church, any church, is a competitor and therefore a threat. People who exhibit blind faith in their religion must be found and turned. I don't care where you go, I don't care what communist philosopher you read, they have to wipe out religion. And they go to great lengths to convince their people that there is no god.

The old Soviets used to do it

The state is not the repository of all the answers. The state is not where you ought to have your blind faith. The state will never care as much about you as you care about yourself. The state will never care for you as much as you care for yourself. The state will never be as concerned about you as you will be for yourself. But it's hideous. And so that's why all these leftists in the media and elsewhere constantly attack the Catholic Church and the pope. Competitors. They are competitors. That's why they must be discredited or manipulated, intimidated into reforming. It won't happen, but that's what the effort is and why it will never go away.

DO TAXPAYERS GET THEIR MONEY’S WORTH FROM UNIONIZED GOVERNMENT WORKERS?

Why are taxpayers paying union officials so much?
http://news.investors.com/ibd-editorials/121912-637712-big-labor-unions-drawing-fat-taxpayer-salaries.htm#ixzz2Fbioe87U
Investors.com -12/19/2012

Politics: Taxpayers are forking out $4.8 million for 35 union officials at the Department of Transportation. But the beneficiary here isn't the taxpayer, it's President Obama, who is raking campaign cash from these unions.

According to documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act by Americans for Limited Government, 35 officials, representing mostly air traffic controllers' unions, are members of the $100,000 club among federal employees.

Unlike the average American, or even average DOT employee, these union officials draw an average $138,000 in salary and benefits from the federal government, not to give something of value to the taxpayers, but to work exclusively for their unions — the National Air Traffic Controllers Association (Natca), the AFL-CIO-affiliated Professional Aviation Safety Specialists (Pass) and two others.

Eight make more than $170,000. The lowest-paid gets $80,000. That means taxpayers are actually paying for union efforts to shake down taxpayers for ever higher salaries and benefits for government workers.

Average controller compensation for the 20,000 or so federal air traffic controllers totaled $166,000 in 2006 and has been forecast to rise towards $200,000 in the next five years, according to a study by the Heritage Foundation.

By contrast, the average American makes $50,000 and the average DOT employee makes $70,000.

REDUNDANT GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS

February 29, 2012

GAO FINDS BILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN REDUNDANT GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS

Daily Caller -- 2/29/2012 -- Alexis Levinson

The government could save tens of billions of dollars each year if redundant and duplicative programs were cut, according to a report released by the Government Accountability Office on Tuesday.
The GAO report examines programs and services that could be streamlined to increase efficiency of government and save money. It looked at areas of where it found either duplication or overlap of services — when “two or more agencies or programs are engaged in the same activities or provide the same services to the same beneficiaries — and fragmentation, when “more than one federal agency (or more than one organization with an agency) is involved in the same broad national interest.” Fragmentation often amounts to an overlap.
The report specifies 51 new areas where government can be made more efficient, in addition to 81 areas identified in a report last year.
“This shocking report identifies more than $400 billion in annual government spending on 1,500 different programs that are wasteful, duplicative, or inefficient,” Sessions said in a statement. “Over the course of a decade, this translates into trillions of wasted taxpayer dollars. Yet the president’s budget plan proposes to raise taxes by $2 trillion in order to increase spending by another $1.6 trillion — subsidizing even greater waste in Washington. It emphasizes more spending, and does not execute the kind of dramatic efficiencies necessary to alter our debt course. The president’s budget is a massive bailout for big spenders.”
