Is social justice math creeping into your child's math curriculum?
http://www.glennbeck.com/2014/08/28/is-social-justice-math-creeping-into-your-childs-curriculum/
Glenn Beck - 8/28/2014
If you think back to your elementary school years, your math
equations probably centered around going to the store and making a
purchase or having to make change in some way. Not anymore. Now, progressives are pushing to have themes like climate change and casualties of war worked into these problems.
“A typical math problem would be you have 13 cents and a green pencil
is 3 cents – you know, that sort of problem. They want to get rid of
those sorts of problems,” Olson said. “Instead, they want to calculate
war deaths, or they want to calculate the number of liquor stores within
a particular radius of the school, or problems related to global
warming – those sorts of things.”
Ultimately, there is a push to insert a political and ideological
bias into areas of the curriculum that should be straightforward and
fact-based.

COMMON CORE INSTRUCTION DRIVEN BY PARCC TESTING
As has been
stated for over a year, AND during the OCT, 2013 hearings, AND during the SB619
hearings; the goal of the assessments is to drive curriculum per the CEO of
PARCC.
In response to PARCC’s press release, Louisiana Gov.
Bobby Jindal’s (R) website published the following statement:
The proponents of Common Core and PARCC continue to insist that tests and standards are not about curriculum, but that’s a ruse. Teachers already know that what is tested at the end of the year is what is taught in classrooms throughout the year. PARCC may not mandate one textbook or one pacing guide, but the CEO of the federally funded PARCC has admitted one thing: PARCC controls instruction and instruction is curriculum.

COMMON CORE - WISCONSIN GOING TO GIVE IT THE BOOT
Walker: Repeal
Common Core
Watch Dog – M. D. Kittle –
7/17/2014
That was the response late
Thursday from opponents of the controversial Common
Core State Standards after Gov. Scott
Walker announced he wants Wisconsin
to do away with the nationalized education template.
Walker’s statement was short and direct.
“Today, I call on the
members of the State Legislature to pass a bill in early January to repeal
Common Core and replace it with standards set by people in Wisconsin,” the
governor said.
READER COMMENT:
Those supporters of Common
Core claim that Common Core is a huge improvement over the previous standards.
What they're really admitting is that they really didn't do anything to improve
education in Wisconsin
prior to Common Core. The new bill should include input from more than just the
DPI. Get real educators, not just those involved in theory, and PARENTS and the
broad community involved in formulating new standards. The DPI can no longer
make decisions for hundreds of thousands of children and local taxpayers paying
the bill. This process must be shared along with the decision. Tony Evers, by
not involving the legislature in the very beginning, has demonstrated that he
and his department cannot be trusted with this very important function.

IS GOVERNMENT EDUCATION MORE GOVERNMENT THAN EDUCATION?
Godfather Politics – Dave Jolly
– 7/2/2014
In 1979, another liberal Democratic president by the name of Jimmy Carter,
separated the education part of the DHEW and made it its own Cabinet position
as the Department of Education.
Since that time, the ED (DOE
is used for the Department of Energy) has grown from 3,000 employees with an
annual budget of $12 billion to nearly 4,200 and annual budget of $77.4 billion
and growing.
If you want to know just how vital and important the
Department of Education is, consider the fact that in the Sequestration government
shutdown last year, nearly 95%
of the ED employees were furloughed because they were deemed
non-essential. They furloughed 3,983 of their 4,195 employees, leaving a mere
212 people to run the entire department.
Another Rasmussen
Report shows that parental support of Common Core has been steadily
declining. Last November, 52% of parents with kids in elementary or secondary
school favored requiring all schools to adhere to the Common Core Standards. In
the most recent survey, only 34% said yes to the same question, a drop of 18%
in only 7 months. Seven months ago, 42% of the parents said Common Core would
help improve student performance. That has dropped to 37%.
If you are a parent of a
child in the public education system, you have the responsibility to find out
what your child(ren) are being taught and what they are not allowed to have
access to. If the school won’t cooperate, it’s time for you to seriously consider
the options of homeschooling or private schooling, if at all possible.
If you don’t take an active
role in your child’s public education, you have only yourself to blame. Their
future is in your hands. If you blindly turn them over to the public schools,
don’t be surprised when he/she/they grow up to be good government loving
socialists who turn away from all of your religious and moral values and
principles.

COMMON CORE IS ENTRENCHED NO MATTER WHAT YOU CALL IT
The Common Core
Face-off: Hiding the Truth about School
Choice and Charter
Schools
Freedom Outpost – Anita B.
Hoge – 7/1/2014
This is a very long article that shows just how entrenched the federal government is in controlling every aspect of local education. Does America stand a chance?
Existing state standards?
You guessed it! Common Core. Do you see a pattern here? This has happened in
several states where Common Core is most controversial. While parents believe
Common Core is gone, little do they know those standards were just embedded in
the ESEA Title I Flexibility Waivers signed by your state's secretary
or superintendent of education. Unfortunately, Oklahoma ,
Indiana , and South Carolina have taken the bait. Common
Core is still there, with other new forceful accountability measures, like
Value Added Models (VAM), to be sure teachers are teaching Common Core, and interventions using
special education funds from the Individuals with Disabilities Education
Act (IDEA) called "Response to Intervention." RtI is used for
ALL students to make sure they are covered by IDEA to meet Common Core
Standards.
The Plan to Use Title I to
Expand School Choice to Private and Religious schools
How will EVERY child
become Title I? President Johnson's "War on Poverty" gave schools
funding, called ESEA Title I, to help those schools where there were
concentrations of students who were poor. Interestingly enough, the term was
"educationally deprived." So, the issue with the ESEA Flexibility
Waiver is that the poverty guidelines were removed. This means that children
who qualified for free and reduced lunches, where a school had to have 40% of
students that qualified under poverty guidelines, are now in a school where
that requirement is reduced to "0%." This means ALL individual
children in an entire school can receive federal ESEA Title I funds for EVERY child:
the funds "follow the child."
This means that a child is
considered "educationally deprived" if he/she does not meet
standards. Interestingly, the 'Conservative' organization American Legislative
Exchange Council, (ALEC) just released model legislation for choice and charter
schools for every state in the country. They refer to students not meeting
standards with the term "academically disadvantaged." This is what is
needed to move forward with federal "choice." EVERY child
must be identified for "choice" funds, no matter where they go to
school. Obama has done this through the ESEA Flexibility Waiver.
Now that ALL children
in public school are Title I, the Republicans can take over from here. They
want "choice" [those Title I funds] for EVERY student who
goes to private and religious schools, too! This is a terrible bait and switch
deception for those parents and citizens who think that choice means freedom of
choice for private and religious education! This is not freedom, nor
true choice.
Here is an example of what
can happen once your child has the "choice" funds in his/her
backpack, with their name allotted to the scholarship, and you (the parent)
decide to use this "choice" funding to send your child to Immaculate
Conception Catholic School in Washington ,
Pennsylvania . This school will be
mandated by federal law to comply with ESEA, better known as Common Core. This
will be disguised as academic standards or College and Career Ready Standards
(CCRS). Under this sort of "choice," there can be no discrimination
for this Catholic school to turn down a student. [NOTE: This changes the hope
that a private school can bypass this issue by just refusing federal funding. The
private school must refuse the child. This is where
discrimination comes into play.] So, Immaculate Conception must enroll
your child. This would be the same for any private school or
religious school.
Immaculate Conception will
be mandated to administer the federal test. This national test will also
evaluate the teachers. If Immaculate
Conception School
is not teaching Common Core, they will be targeted as a priority or
focus school to be brought into compliance with the law. This will be the
demise of "private" in your group of "choice" schools. This
will be the end of truly private education in America, because your private or
religious school just became a government school—it must use the standards
passed in your state (Common Core warmed over), and take the assessment aligned
to the national curriculum and national test. All schools become government
schools with "choice."
Meanwhile, everyone is
fiddling around with Common Core, states are taking the caps off the number of
charter schools, expanding them, closing down public schools, and sometimes
transforming a public school into a charter school. Parent trigger bills are
allowing parents to set up charter schools. Charter schools are not private
schools. Charters are public schools. They have with no elected boards, but they
do have access to public funds.
By supporting the Common
Core agenda you have just agreed to diminish our American representative form
of government by supporting "choice" and charter schools. Taxation
without representation. Will taxes be centralized or regionalized toward a
central base? Will the people have any power or voice to change this system?
So, think again. "What
is your choice?" Charter schools, private schools, religious schools,
and remaining public schools—all conforming to the ESEA federal law with Common
Core embedded in the standards. Your state will continue to reduce caps on
charter schools, and some public schools will become community "hub
centers" or school-based clinics. And lest you forget, SB 1094 also
changed the definition of a "Family Member." You, the parent are
demoted to a "partner" who is responsible for your child along
with many "other" government officials.
Who needs the U.S.
Department of Education? Who needs state control of funding when Title I
federal funds "follow the child" and do NOT pass through state
government? Who needs locally elected school boards when public schools fail?
Removing teacher tenure
easily allows traditional teachers who know what is best for children, to be
replaced if they do not conform to the Common Core agenda. The Fexibility
Waiver is very clear about replacing the principals and the teachers not in compliance.
Young, inexperienced Teach For America members are standing on the sidelines
ready to jump at the chance to replace traditional teachers. Eager and
committed, they will comply with the plan.

COMMON CORE BOOTED OUT OF GERMAN TOWN SCHOOLS
Political Outcast – Karen Schroeder
– 6/25/2014
This will not cause
financial problems for the district because Germantown did not purchase Common Core
aligned texts. Once the new standards are written, the district will use
current dollars budgeted for new texts to purchase curriculum that will meet
the expectations of the citizens of Germantown
and meet the need of the students in Germantown .
Increased use of technology
will be saving the district a lot of dollars normally spent on heavy, quickly
outdated textbooks. Medved stated that the district will be relying on the Chromebook,
a new, faster computer textbook that is inexpensive to update.
According to Mr. Medved, the
Germantown
district is considering opting out of the federally aligned tests. If the
district finds it cannot opt-out, it will be up to the parents to opt their
children out of the testing. Germantown
schools would prefer continuing using the MAPS tests to assess student
progress. Germantown
is working with legislators to obtain a waiver from testing and for finding
alternative ways to report progress in the state report card.

COMMON CORE TESTING - ARE THE BIDS RIGGED IN FAVOR OF PEARSON?
Bid-rigging lawsuit throws
$240M-a-year Common Core testing contract into limbo
Fox News – Perry Chiaramonte
– 6/18/2014
Pearson, the largest company
in standardized testing, stands to take in as much as $240 million per year if
it secures a contract to administer testing of millions of students. But the
contract has been stalled by a New
Mexico judge after a rival company complained the
bidding process was set up to ensure Pearson won.
“The procurement for PARCC
Operational Assessments is fundamentally flawed in several critical ways,”
reads a summary from AIR’s Jan uary
filing. AIR claims it could not
develop testing materials because it did not have access to necessary
information, which PARCC gave only to Pearson.
Under the contract, Pearson would charge $24 per
student, and would test between 5.5 million and 10 million students per year.

COMMON CORE: THREE STATES HAVE NOW BACKED OUT
Tough week for the Common
Core
NPRED – Anya Kamenetz – 6/9/2014
What has seemed most
troubling for critics of the Core, and of the influence of large philanthropies
in U.S.
policy generally, is the close association between the Gates Foundation and the
U.S. Department of Education under the Obama administration. The Common Core
are not, strictly speaking, national standards. They were developed
independently of the federal government, and states are not under a mandate to
adopt them. But the standards received a big boost in the form of funding
incentives from the Obama administration.
Behind the alignment of
interests, the Post article noted several close ties: Margot Rogers,
who was Education Secretary Arne Duncan's chief of staff, and James Shelton,
now a deputy secretary, both came directly from the foundation. The
administration waived
ethics rules to allow the two of them to consult closely with former
colleagues. And Chicago received $20 million in
Gates funding to reorganize schools while Duncan
was that district's CEO before leaving for his Cabinet position.

COMMON CORE: SIGN ON TO END IT
SIGN
ON TO END COMMON CORE
Join
American Principles Project, Eagle Forum, HSLDA, Pioneer Institute, Michelle
Malkin and others urging Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin, Chair of the National
Governors Association, to end the Common Core State Standards Initiative.
Through this initiative the NGA has enabled corporations and other private
interests to drive education policy which has compromised the power of parents.
So we are asking parents, educators and concerned citizens to add their names
with ours in order to stop the Common Core State
Standards.
May 5,
2014
Governor Mary
Fallin
Dear Governor
Fallin:
We write to you in your capacity as
governor of Oklahoma and as the chair of the
National Governors Association and its affiliate the NGA Center for Best Practices (together,
“NGA”). In particular, we write to you about NGA’s activities with regard to
the national Common Core Standards system.
As set forth
in the Joint
Statement Regarding the National Governors
Association’s Common Core Standards Initiative
and the Constitutional Structure, NGA’s
activities, including its ownership, development and propagation of the Common
Core, have caused profound harm to our constitutional structure. NGA has
enabled corporations and other private interests to drive education policy and,
concomitantly, compromised the power of parents. It has enlisted the power of
the federal government to bring about these changes and, in so doing, has
weakened the power of states to defend the authority and rights of parents and
other citizens.
More
specifically, NGA has assisted the federal government in employing a strategy
against the states that has divided and conquered the state checks and balances
that are intended to guard against federal overreach. It has presided over the
development of math standards that lock children into a defective education, one
that does not prepare children for studies in science, technology, engineering,
and math (STEM) or for admission to competitive public and private
universities. It has presided over the development of English standards that
fail to prepare children for authentic college work in the humanities and that
weaken the formation of strong citizen-leaders and individuals of substance who
are fully capable of exercising their liberties.
The pushback
against the Common Core rests on parents’ love for their children and their
defense of the Constitution that protects their rights to form their children
and direct their education. It is a movement based on truth, and on highly
informed citizens –citizens who follow in the footsteps of the Founders. It is
a movement that continues to grow and which will be
victorious.
We
respectfully ask that, as chair of the NGA, you end the Common Core project. We
respectfully submit that your decisions on this matter will define your
legacy.
Sincerely,
Your Name

COMMON CORE: WHAT SHOULD IT BE DEBATED?
Common Core – No intelligence
allowed
Eagle Rising – David Whitley
– 5/9/2014
There are two things stand
out in this explosive news story that has been all over the internet that
should get the attention of parents of school age children everywhere.
The first is just how
clearly Common Core shows itself to work, (the horror stories are legion)
pushing kids into finding their own answers, versus learning true facts and
gaining true knowledge. Facts of history are objective truth. What these Common
Core exercises accomplish, what they are meant to accomplish, is to give
comfort to students’ personal, subjective, and emotional conclusions.
The second thing we see is
that Common Core -- rather than enhancing thinking -- is actually replacing
critical thinking skills with emotional based outcomes. This is something
liberals have perfected -- basing decisions on emotion and not rational
thinking. Is Common Core the final tool of the left to wrestle full control of
our children from their parents?
Do high school students no
longer need to read Plato’s “Republic” in the ninth grade, or “Uncle Tom’s
Cabin” in tenth? Do we no longer need to read the Constitution, the Bill of
Rights, or Lincoln ’s
anti-slavery response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s Dred Scott decision?
Perhaps this is why Common
Core is moving towards more "informational texts" and "sexualized
stories"
So within Common Core, we
can debate whether the Holocaust is true, but…
• Can we debate global
warming or global cooling?
• Can we debate macro evolution or intelligent design?
• Can we debate Common Core?
• Can we debate the harm of an invasion of illegals?
• Can we debate abortion? Whether it stops a beating heart?
• Can we debate if second hand smoke is actually deadly?
• Can we debate the harmful effects of legalizing marijuana?
• Can we debate the cultural harm of same-sex marriage?
• Can we debate the personal harm of homosexuality?
• Can we debate whether a property owners rights trump a rat or tortoise?
• Can we debate historical fallacies in the History Alive! textbook?
• Can we debate the 1,400 years of Islamic terror, slavery and murder?
• Can we debate whether jihadists are actually following Islamic holy texts?
• Can we debate whether or not the First Amendment applies beyond Congress?
• Can we debate whether or not the Second Amendment protects an individual right?
• Can we even debate at all inAmerica
anymore?
• Can we debate macro evolution or intelligent design?
• Can we debate Common Core?
• Can we debate the harm of an invasion of illegals?
• Can we debate abortion? Whether it stops a beating heart?
• Can we debate if second hand smoke is actually deadly?

• Can we debate whether jihadists are actually following Islamic holy texts?
• Can we debate whether or not the First Amendment applies beyond Congress?
• Can we debate whether or not the Second Amendment protects an individual right?
• Can we even debate at all in
The simple answer to these
questions is no.
You see, liberals have a
copyright on "Intelligence" and anyone trying to use it; is to be
shouted down or sued.
The left will shut you down
-- not with speeches, but with single words, slung like arrows, shot like
bullets. They will label you racist, sexist, bigot, prejudiced, intolerant,
homophobic, or Islamophobic.
How do these words shut down
debate and take effect, you might ask? You might recall the poetic words of
yesterday, "Sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never
harm me." But today these words are no longer valid, for the words used by
liberals are more than mere descriptions -- they are weapons, like the
exploding money bag that splatters the thief with purple dye. Your name is
discolored and you are thereby deemed a political leper forever more.
I RECOMMEND EVERY PARENT
SEEK OUT THE READING LIST FOR THE SCHOOL IN WHICH THEIR CHILD ATTENDS AND MAKE
SURE THE STANDARDS OF YOUR SCHOOL ARE HIGHER THAN THE STANDARDS OF COMMON CORE

COMMON CORE: MATH INDOCTRINATION
Math as Indoctrination
Eagle Forum - April
One area where Rethinking
Schools has it right is their view of Common Core standards. Although the
mainstream media relentlessly insists that Common Core disenchantment comes
only from far-right and Tea Party groups, the current issue of Rethinking
Schools magazine reports on the progressive group’s displeasure in an
article titled “The Problems with the Common Core”:
The standards were drafted
largely behind closed doors by academics and assessment “experts,” many with
ties to testing companies. . . . [It is] a massively well-financed campaign of
billionaires and politically powerful advocacy organizations. . . . Rethinking
Schools has always been skeptical of standards imposed from above. Too many
standards projects have been efforts to move decisions about teaching and
learning away from educators and schools, and put them in the hands of distant
bureaucracies and politicians. (ReThinking Schools, Winter 2013-14)
Since states began
implementing Common Core, all sorts of social justice math teaching has popped
up in classrooms. It seems that if a lesson plan is labeled Common
Core-aligned, no matter how misguided, it may be taught to students. Standards
that “change how math is taught” leave classrooms wide open to adding social
justice content.
COMMON CORE IS REALLY OLD "NEW MATH"
Common Core’s newer
math: a return to mathematical ignorance
Education Reporter – April
newsletter
By giving concept priority
over content, Common Core has failed to learn the history lesson from New Math.
Students instructed according to Common Core standards will ultimately know
neither the “why” nor the “how,” and we will eventually consign these standards
to the ever-expanding dustbin of failed educational initiatives, until the next
messianic program is unveiled.

It’s a doozy.
Trying is not defined on the
handout. However students who don’t do it to the satisfaction of the adults at
Lamar Elementary risk flunking for the entire school year – so, no pressure
kids! – and being labeled as “lazy.”
The crowning achievement of
the missive is a not-so-subtle threat to the kids about how teachers
will suffer if the kids don’t do well enough.
“Your teacher
will
feel bad because you didn’t try. She gets paid for teaching you. She wants her

COMMON CORE PARENT OPPONENT "SUSPENDED" FROM SCHOOL
Mom suspended from son’s elementary
school for warning other parents about Common Core
http://godfatherpolitics.com/15091/mom-suspended-sons-elementary-school-warning-parents-common-core/
Godfather Politics – Dave Jolly
– 4/8/2014
So what legal right does the
school have for taking the actions they did in this case? As long as
Christopher Duran was not disrupting his class, he has the First Amendment
right to hand out the fliers his mom printed out. If they had allowed him
to do so, there would not have been the confrontation between Christopher’s mom
and the principal.
Did the principal have the
legal right to get the police involved and issue a 14 day suspension against
Katherine Duran? All she did was insist on getting back her forms that
the principal illegally confiscated from her son.
School administrators and
faculty so often assume a lot more authority than they legally have. They
continually trample on the constitutional rights of students and then get
angered when called down for their illegal actions.
This is why I advocate that
every teacher and school administrator be required to take classes on the
constitutional rights of student and teachers. Educators must be educated
on what they can and cannot do.

COMMON CORE HOLD UP IN THE ASSEMBLY: KESTELL EXPERIENCES OPPOSITION
Was Steve Kestell
threatening opponents of Common Core?
Wisconsin Election Watch - By
Kyle Maichle, Editor of Wisconsin Election
Watch, - 4/8/2014
With fervor struck up by
opponents of Common Core standards, Chairman Kestell was a target.
Two individuals who are opposed to Common Core spoke directly to Wisconsin
Election Watch alleging how Representative Kestell has treated them when
expressing their opposition.
Ed Perkins of Appleton is an opponent
of common core standards and a member of the Fox Valley
Initiative. He feels that Common Core should be stopped
because lawmakers “knew nothing about it” referring to when Wisconsin
school districts started implementing the standards in 2009 up until 2013 when
opposition intensified. Perkins feels that because education is the largest
item in the Wisconsin budget, special
consideration should be taken into account to hold back the new standards
citing costs.
Perkins faced threats from
Representative Kestell over e-mail communications he had with the
Representative over failing to schedule a committee vote on Assembly Bill 617. On
February 20th,
Representative Kestell abruptly cancelled a vote in the Assembly
Education Committee on AB 617.
Perkins provided Wisconsin
Election Watch with a copy of actual communications between him and the Representative.
In an e-mail sent the day after the committee vote, Perkins
said: “I want to share with you my great dismay at your public statement
yesterday wherein you stated, “This Common Core bill will not be voted on
indefinitely”. You appear, to me and others, as though you will dictate
what bills you will allow to have a hearing and if you don’t like the bill no
matter how the public or your constituents feel, that is the end of it. As you
know even Gov. Walker has made it very clear that he wants standards created by
and for our state, not those imposed on us by the US DEPT. of Education, the
NGA or the Bill & Melinda Foundation.
