INTACT FAMILY IS MORE ADVANTAGEOUS THAN EDUCATION

INTACT FAMILY IS MORE ADVANTAGEOUS THAN EDUCATION

U.S. Social Policy – Dependence on the Family – Derived from the Index of Belonging
Marri Research – Marriage and Religion Research Institute – Henry Potrykus, Patrick Fagan

Using the 2013 Index of Family Belonging and Rejection we explore major federal and state public policy outcomes and show that government depends on the intact family for the achievement of its stated goals. Government will likely continue to fail to achieve its goals if it continues to neglect the reality of this dependence.

Influence of family intactness on need & dependency

Family intactness is the most important factor (or shares the place of greatest importance) in determining an area's dependence on welfare programs that target organic poverty:

Receipt of food stamps,
Temporary Assistance for Needy Families and state welfare transfers,
Supplemental Security Income transfers, and
Prime-age adult public healthcare recipiency.
Family intactness has the second-largest influence on overall diminishment of prime-age female, and child, poverty.

Relative advantages of adults education vs. family intactness across 18 outcomes

HOW CHILDREN SUCCEED – DEVELOP THEIR CHARACTER

Child raised well is notable achievement
Townhall – Marybeth Hicks – 2/5/2013

Perhaps the best book on parenting in this way is not actually a parenting book at all, but is Paul Tough’s sociological study of children’s character. In “HOW CHILDREN SUCCEED: GRIT, CURIOSITY, AND THE HIDDEN POWER OF CHARACTER,” Mr. Tough reveals that American children — even those mired in poverty and without the advantages of suburban “helicopter parents” — are able to achieve ultimate success not because of what they have or how they do things, but because of who they are.

Mr. Tough’s book confirms what we writer-moms keep saying in column after column, blog after blog: It’s who we are that defines what we do with our lives.
Our kids deserve to learn this — the hard way — which is the only way there is.

PRESIDENT OBAMA NEW IDEA ABOUT MARRIAGE

Obama’s Wicked Marriage Proposal
http://www.onenewsnow.com/Perspectives/Default.aspx?id=1597416
One News Now – Robert Knight – 5/14/2012

No one knows what's in anyone's heart. But we are told by the Scriptures to judge people's actions. Mr. Obama's marriage gambit speaks louder than his contempt for the free market, the Constitution, American exceptionalism or even fossil fuels.

But we don't have to institutionalize insanity, despite the left's insistence that it's inevitable. As North Carolina illustrates, it's dawning on people that they can love and respect homosexual friends, relatives and neighbors without buying into liberal lies about sex and morality.

DEFEND MARRIAGE: MOMS AND DADS MATTER

http://www.thepublicdiscourse.com/2011/08/3761

The Witherspoon Institute -- Maggie Gallagher -- 8/23/2011

Maggie Gallagher writes a long article about marriage, gay relationsihps, children born out of wedlock.  This is worth the read.

Presidential candidates for the 2012 election need to know that marriage is not only an essential issue in this race; it is a winning issue.

This shift means something: when the issue is framed as one of fairness or equality, Americans are now reluctant to disagree with gay marriage, but when it is framed as a moral or family issue, they continue to adhere strongly to traditional norms of marriage.

As Ken Blackwell recently put it, marriage is not a wedge issue but a bridge issue, creating strange bedfellow coalitions never before seen in American politics across lines of race, creed, and color.
