VILAS COUNTY BOARD - RESOLUTION 2012-96

The Vilas County Board met Tuesday, September 18 and discussed a number of agenda items, all within the context of a looming budget deficit of $1.5 million for 2012. One agenda item was Resolution 2012-96, which dealt with the possible payout for employees who chose to voluntary terminate, called RIF, reduction in force.

The new Human Resource and Finance Managers discussed Resolution 2012-96 and the evaluation of each department and employee—that task has not been completed yet.

After considerable discussion by Board members, one person from the public was permitted to speak and reminded the Board of their two primary goals:

  • Maintain services
  • Reduce expenditures
The Board may consider the following:

  • Reduction in hours (40 to 35 hours a week)
  • Five-day / four-day work week (72 hours over two weeks instead of 80 hours)
  • Pay cut
  • Hiring Freeze
  • Layoffs
  • Attrition
  • Ethics—Would family members or relatives of Board members be eligible for early termination payouts?
The ultimate vote by the Board rejected Resolution 2012-96.

Thanks are offered to those of you who called your County Board Supervisor and expressed your concerns about a possible RIF payout based on years of service and pay.

The Annual Budget meeting will be held the 3rd Tuesday in November at 9:00 A.M., 11/20/2012.
