No matter how many times
Planned Parenthood repeats their “Big Lie,” there’s a problem they can’t sweep
under the rug with soothing rhetoric: taking
life is not part of promoting health.
Paying for abortions with money intended for “health
services” isn’t the same thing as promoting health, either.
As Planned Parenthood’s
federal funds reached an all time high, so too did the number of abortions it
provided, while its real health services for women continues to decline….
Abortions make up 92 percent of Planned Parenthood’s pregnancy services, while
prenatal care and adoption referrals account for less than 8 percent…. Planned
Parenthood’s blatant misuse of taxpayer dollars to fund its big abortion
business is an attack on life and women’s health.
H.R. 217
would stop the flow of our taxes for “assistance [for] an entity unless the
entity certifies that, during the period of such assistance, the entity will
not perform, and will not provide any funds to any other entity that performs,
an abortion.”
This bill is critical just
from a simple look at the numbers from 2011—numbers which show that Planned Parenthood received $542 million
in taxpayer funds for 333,964 abortions.

The new
report released by the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA)
showed those abortions were estimated to have generated $150 million dollars
for the “nonprofit” organization.
While the number of
abortions reached a record high, only 2,300 Planned Parenthood customers were
referred to adoption agencies during the 2011-2012 fiscal year.
PPFA’s income included a
hefty and ever-increasing check from American taxpayers. In 2009-2010,
government funding reached a whopping $487.4 million. In 2010-2011 the figure
jumped to $538.5 million. The total for 2011-2012 reached a staggering $542.4
million, which represents 45.2 percent of the group’s total annual budget.
On June 30, 2012, PPFA had
net assets valued at $1,244.7 billion, of which $474.5 million was unrestricted,
essentially making it a savings account.
In
its last annual report, Planned
Parenthood did 329,445 abortions in 2010 while it provided prenatal
care to only 31,098 women and referred only 841 women to adoption
agencies.
