In conversing with fellow
conventioneers, what I found over and over was an acute understanding of topics
ranging from geopolitics to the environment to finance. Many of the people I
spoke with and listened to could expound with authority on their topic of
choice. And by and large, these were ordinary, down-home folks - not policy
wonks, not eggheads. Just everyday Americans who have educated themselves, done
their homework and are justifiably distressed about the direction
