WISCONSIN STUDENT SENATE SCHOLAR PROGRAM

The Wisconsin State Senate recent  sent out the following message  in hopes of attracting an adventuresome high school junior or senior from the district who would like to participate in this tremendous opportunity.  Please pass this information along to anyone you know who would be a good candidate!

The Senate Scholar Program is now accepting application.  It’s rigorous curriculum is two-fold.

First, the students are introduced to many facets of the legislative process. They meet with legislative support agencies, legislative staff, the Governor’s staff, a Supreme Court Justice, the media, lobbyists, and University of Wisconsin-Madison faculty members.

The students then put their knowledge into action. When the Senate is on the floor, Scholars will staff the session under the direction of the Senate Sergeant at Arms’ office. The week’s events culminate in a Senate Scholar committee hearing on a bill that the students have drafted.

One student from each of Wisconsin’s 33 senate districts will be accepted.

The tentative 2013 session dates are April 7-12, April 14-19, and May 5-10.

All applications for the Scholar Program are due by March 1, 2013.

Students may apply by visiting the Senate Scholar webpage: http://senatescholar.com

Applicants may also contact Senator Tiffany at (608) 266-2509 or Sen.Tiffany@legis.wi.gov.
