Wisconsin Reading Coalition E-Alert
The Education Committees of
the Wisconsin Assembly and Senate will hold a joint informational hearing on
the Common Core State Standards on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at 10:00 AM in Room
411 South of the State Capitol. The hearing is open to the public. The
legislators will hear invited testimony only from the following individuals:
Daniel Thatcher, Senior
Policy Specialist, National Conference of State Legislatures
Karen Schroeder, Advocates
for Academic Freedom
Kathleen Porter-Magee,
Senior Director of High Quality Standards, The Fordham Institute
Joy Pullmann, Education
Research Fellow, Heartland Institute
Aaron Sadoff, Administrator,
School District
of North Fond du Lac
Janet Busboom, Citizens
Advocating Responsible Education (CARE)
Ted Nietzke, Superintendent,
West Bend School District
State Superintendent Tony
Evers (or his representatives)
The Common Core State
Standards in English Language Arts, despite being less than perfect, are a huge
step forward for Wisconsin .
The Thomas B. Fordham Institute, in its study comparing the Common Core State
Standards to the existing standards of each state, rated the Common Core at B+
and Wisconsin at D.
