COMMON CORE - NORTHLAND PINES

Local educators question political spotlight on Common Core Standards
WJFW – Lex Gray – 10/4/2013

Dr. Mike Richie is the Northland Pines School District superintendent. He's been hearing from parents concerned that Common Core means the federal government will dictate what books and lessons are taught.

"It's not curriculum. Every school district will select their own curriculum," Richie says. "Some of the people against Common Core have brought into me and have shown me some texts and they say, 'Well, look what Common Core does.' Well, those textbooks are not common core. The district has the ability to adopt whatever textbooks they see are in the best interest of the school district."

  3. In Spring this Cincinnati news segment exposed Common Core as well as the fallacy that it’s only about standards and not curriculum dictated from above (that specific fallacy is exposed at the 2:50 mark).

Coupled with the Bill Gates video in the posting below, it should be clear that the curriculum will in fact align with the standards.
